Felsch Lighting Design is an independent, manufacturer-neutral lighting design studio based in Hamburg, Germany. Markus Felsch founded the studio in 2004. Today a team of lighting designers with backgrounds in architecture, interior design, product design, mechanical and electrical engineering advises clients in Germany and abroad. Our work ranges from lighting design for museums, churches, pools and retail to the development of custom luminaires and the measurement of existing lighting. Projects and training have taken us to 22 countries – from Norway to Spain, from Ireland to Romania, and to Bahrain, Japan, Azerbaijan, the USA, Ecuador and Australia.

Markus Felsch – founder and managing director
His training as an electrical power installation technician and his studies of lighting design at HAWK Hildesheim laid the technical and creative foundations. Many years in architectural and event lighting followed, in which he applied his know-how and his passion for experimentation in numerous projects.
“To design perfect lighting, all factors of the task have to be considered. In most cases this includes the client's brief, the place where the lighting mood will be created, the budget, the client's courage and trust, and the long-term economic and ecological effects of a design.”
His aim is to pass this comprehensive understanding on to staff and clients. To this end he invests in fundamental research at HAW Hamburg, teaches at HAWK Hildesheim and trains architects and engineers who work with light. He is a founding member of fild and a member of IALD. For measuring interior lighting, the studio has developed its own patent-pending method using an indoor drone.
